Back in 2005, when Andy started listening to the girls, is when his life began to change. They kept telling him that they wanted out of “The Life.” As a police officer, Andy not only is supposed to enforce the law, he also needs to help people. He diligently searched for programs and services that would be able to offer some help and assistance for the girls who wanted out of “the life.” He could not find any. He discovered there was not a single comprehensive recovery program in existence for young women caught up in sex trafficking or prostitution in the Seattle and Washington area. This perception began to change his view of the girls and women who walked the streets at night.

In essence, Andy realized these girls were not criminals at all. They were powerless victims of slavery. In the years to follow, the girls taught him the structure and the underworld of prostitution and sex trafficking, the rules of “the game,” the stories of being in “the life,” how they felt so trapped, and how they could not see a way out. Society shames these women by not knowing that invisible chains hold them. They have no voice and no hope. This is the only crime where the same suspect is also a silent victim. The Genesis Project is a non-profit organization focused on providing healthy solutions for individuals trying to leave sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. These girls are trapped by their pimps through coercion, brute force, or even twisted by emotional manipulation. Most girls have no families or anyone who cares about their welfare. Most have little education and are denied it by their pimps. They have no job skills or resources that could allow them to live independently. Our inclusive faith-based organization supports these girls in all forms of life with non-discriminating, loving support.

We provide initial care to girls wanting to leave this exploitation, through our drop-in center and emergency shelter. The Genesis Project provides counseling, substance abuse support, job and life skills classes, paid internship opportunities, transportation to medical appointments and court, free legal counsel, and access to educational programs such as GED completion. We also support these survivors by offering housing resources, connections to housing programs, transportation to residential housing (long and short-term). Our mission is to uplift and support these girls through this tough transition to normality. This organization exists, where there is no other solution to offer these services in south King County.

Our Police Department partnerships include Algona PD, Auburn PD, Bellevue PD, Des Moines PD, Federal Way PD, Kent PD, King County Sheriff, Normandy Park PD, Port of Seattle PD, Port Orchard PD, Renton PD, SeaTac PD, Seattle PD, and Tukwila PD. We have partnered with Lifeway Church, The River of Life Fellowship Church, and Overlake Christian Church. Come alongside us on this journey, as we ask for your support.
